Carol - the President is head of state of a Republic

Whether we like it or not our Republic contains adherents of all religions and no religion, and our constitution precludes government from establishing a religion (a very different thing from requiring the government to oppress or inhibit practice of a religion). As President the man should show reasonable respect for a wide divergence of such beliefs. I draw the line where he shows respect for the aspects of such beliefs that cross over into outright exclusion for other belief systems - as much or perhaps most of Islam does.

As private citizens, of course, all of us have the right to refuse to enter into the sacred places of any belief system we deny.
