Reader comment on item: Shoeless George Bush
in response to reader comment: Carol - the President is head of state of a Republic

On a secular level it is easy to agree with you. But God is not interested in hearing it. The president has a right to diplomatically decline and request the ceremony/meeting be held elsewhere. Your point is a good one but I still am dismayed at the turn of events in our country and the government in particular.

I can't remember the president attending any special services of a public nature in a Baptist Church for instance...to do so might cause the same kind of uproar. We have built a nation on the premise of it being Christain...our money says so, so do many older patriotic songs, and to ask God to bless American in one breath and then turn around and take off his shoes in deference to a different god seems hypocritical. I would not want to be in Bush"s shoes (pun intended). God sees all and He is interested only in His soverignity over His earth and those of us here. If you say you are a believer in God and in His son, then act like it and quit talking about it.
