Dear Chris, you write :

> However who are we at war with? Daniel Pipes states quite clearly that we are NOT at war with the religion of Islam.

Perhaps, he is right in a way he doesn't suspect. It is not us, it is Islam which is at permanent war with us. We (including him) do our best not to see this obvious fact. Islam has declared an eternal war on us the moment it was born.

In Islam the world is divided into two eternally inimical parts : dar-al-Islam (the house of Islam) and dar-al-harb (the house of war). We happen to live illegally( legality comes from Allah and we deny him) in the latter. Islam will not allow us to remain what we are (the kafirs) and will always try to conquer our lands and enslave us it has done with so many free lands and nations.

As long as Islam exists we will never be safe from its aggression and sickening influences.

> Yet he often lumps all of them together with extremists and accuses the religion of being horrifically evil. He does not outline how you convince Muslims to "Modernize" their religion by threatening them and insulting and demonizing their religion and their nations. That is faulty logic in the highest order and goes against basic human psychology.

You're wrong about Dr. Pipes. He is a most enthusiactic believer in and defender of Islam's virtue which he calls "moderate Islam". Recently he had a vision and saw millions of virtuous "moderate" Moslems marching in the streets of Turkey and Pakistan. He always dismisses any arguments of people who don't share his visions and can't see what he does.

> If Muslims are to be convinced using military means to force them to change their religion, then we are no better then Al-Qaeda who wishes to do the same to us.

History teaches that only defeat and humiliation work with Moslems. Turkey started its first reforms only after suffering heavy losses at the hands of Russia. Oppressive Moslem anti-Christian and anti-Jewish laws (the dhimmitude) were abolished only when the Turks felt the Russian and western bayonets on their ar... When defeated the Turks could behave quite politely. When victorious and emboldened by their enemy's cowardise they behave like bloody monsters.

Anyway, which politician today cares about history? All of them live in a dreamworld beyond history. At best history only is quoted if it serves to reinforce their escapist dreams. I am quite sure Bush is unaware of the most basic facts of Islamic history.
