Reader comment on item: Decision Time on Iran

Submitted by Jonathan D. Safren (Israel), Nov 1, 2006 at 02:06

You wrote that "This key decision – war or acquiescence – will take place in Washington, not in New York, Vienna, or Tehran. (Or Tel Aviv.) "

As far as I know, living in Israel as I do, Jerusalem is the capital of our country and the location of the Knesset (Parliament) and all government ministries except the Ministry of Defense. Tel Aviv is a good place to do business, bathe at the beach, see a play or concert, or regale oneself at a fine restaurant or cafe.

Most people outside of Israel also know that Jerusalem is our capital, though they might not like to admit it.

Is this an inadvertent slip of the keyboard, or did you wish to make a political statement?

Daniel Pipes replies:

No political statement, nor a slip; I was referring to the fact that the IDF headquarters is located in Tel Aviv. But now, on thinking about it further, I should have referred to Jerusalem, where the prime minister makes the final decision.
