"The oppressed Palestinian Peopleā€¦.." This is one of the most brilliant propaganda stunts of the 20th century.

Till the 1967 Six Days War there were no "Occupied Territories" and no "Palestinian struggle for self-determination". Till 1967 the disputed territories of the West Bank and Gaza Strip were under Arab control but no Arab voice ever demanded the establishment of a "Palestinian State" on these territoriesā€¦. Because what the Arabs wanted was not the establishment of another Arab state but wiping out the Jewish State of Israel and mass murdering or chasing away the Jews from the region.

The PLO, the Palestinian Liberation Organization was founded by Yasser Arafat in 1964 but its charter was not establishment of a Palestinian State in the then Arab controlled West Bank and Gaza; it was destruction of the State of Israel and "liberation" of its territories from Jews. It is important to point out that throughout history no "Palestinian State" ever existed, and of course no "Palestinian People", and Palestine was most of the time a neglected and deserted district of the Ottoman Empire.

After their failure to destroy Israel in 1967 and losing the West Bank and Gaza to Israel, and after realizing that their beloved slogan of "Wiping out Israel and pushing the Jews into the Mediterranean" doesn't sell well internationally, it finally dawned on these "peaceful oppressed Arabs" that they must change tactics. This is the point when the "Palestinian People" was invented. The rest is history. Arabian Nights style.
