HappyIrish, you should take into the account the timeline. Jews began to purchase lands already in Ottoman times, long before the establishment of the state in 48 and the following war.

Had the Arab countries not attacked the newly established state of Israel - and had the Arabs in Israel not supported the Arab aggressors more or less openly - there would have been no refugee problem at all. If you read the Israeli Declaration of Independence, you will find that the state guaranteed the rights of minority citizens from the outset.

Until today, there are many Arabs still living in Israel. There was never a policy of ethnic cleansing.
