Wish it were that simple

Reader comment on item: Not Stealing Palestine but Purchasing Israel

I wish it were that simple. But violence and terrorism were used, for example, by Irgun and the Stern gangs to drive out the British. The bombing of the King David hotel, the Deir Yassin massacre, the hanging British soldiers who were just doing their jobs and the assassination of Lord Moyne are such examples.

Because the rest of the world's societies are founded in violence, does not justify our use of it, even to a lesser degree. For us Jews, the problem goes beyond politics. By the Torah we are held to a higher standard than that of the nations.

As a Goy (Gentile) or People, Israel has the same right to exist as any other Gentile or Nation. It has the right to defend itself like any other nation. But it is our Orthodox teaching that the land will only be redeemed when Messiah comes and all Jews turn to God alone and live the commandments. Meantime, we are to be subject to the nations. The United Nations recognized Israel's right to exist as a modern Gentile (Nation). But it is problematic because of our faith.
