in response to reader comment: well written piece...

"The underlying issues isn't "occupation" or the building of Israeli settlements, or checkpoints, yada yada, Really It shouldn't be shocking to anyone who understands the Islamic imperative to jihad that the cause is sold to Palestinian children the way it is. It is disheartening, however."

I beg to differ. The "issues" of occupation, the building of Israeli settlements and checkpoints are, in fact, the KEY issues in this conflict. It is one thing to be (supposedly legally) handed a chunk of land by a bunch of European leaders who had no right to give said land away, but it is entirely another to encroach on neighbouring territories that do NOT legally belong to you. Taking land by force, demolishing people's homes, schools, businesses and lives...while being told by the international community that what you are doing is NOT legally sanctioned...I would indeed call this more than an "underlying" issue. It is a serious issue that needs to be addressed and stopped. The US and other "western" countries need to stop kow-towing to the Jewish lobbies and start standing up for what is just. Furthermore, to make the comment with regards to "the Islamic imperative to jihad", it is clear that YOU are the one in need of a lesson on the fundamentals of Islam, in order that you may "understand". You have no concept of what the term "jihad" actually means...misusing it as you have done (like most biased media does) clearly shows that you are in no position to be making judgments with regards to the actions or motives of the Palestinian people. This has nothing to do with religion...this has to do with people being violently driven from their homes and being forced to live like second class citizens in their own land...and being treated as less than human by the IDF. They are trying to stand against this oppression...what else would they be expected to do? If Spain slowly began to forcefully take over parts of neighbouring France, would the French not try to defend their homes and their lands? I think so...with the rest of the world behind them in solidarity.
