Never judge Islam by observing Muslims. Why?

Reader comment on item: Is Prince Charles a Convert to Islam?
in response to reader comment: none is so blind as one who won't see

Somethings are said so quietly that they go through without scrutiny. car313 says, " the rule is never judge islam by observing the muslims.".

May I know why? If Islam is not be judged by looking a bad muslims, it ought not to be judged by looking at good muslims. So Islam neither makes muslims good nor bad. Then what good is Islam?

The truth of the matter is that those who say that Islam should not be judged by observing Muslims do not want to take responsibility for all the bad that people are doing in the name of Islam. The relation between people who do bad in the name of Islam and the doctrine of Islam is exactly what needs to be examined. Under that scrutiny Islam may be entirely exonerated or partly implicated. Whatever the result, that relation must be examined. This dictum applies to all religions not merely to Islam.
