The HijabReader comment on item: Hijabs on Western Political Women Submitted by Aliix (United States), Nov 17, 2009 at 15:36 The Prophet Muhammad stated in a now well-known hadith that women are inferior to men in intellect and religion, yet our leaders want to respect the religion this man created?!? They want to respect his cries to jihad and his expansionist mentality which led to the four caliphs expanding into non-Muslim territory and subjugating non-Muslim peoples? I don't believe in accommodating any religion, or, for that matter, respecting a religion which calls for my own subjugation. Certainly, I can respect the followers of Islam because most of them are good, everyday people; however, respecting the horrific legacy of Islam should not be required. If we showed the Islamic world the amount of respect they gave us, we wouldn't even speak to them. My point is not to say we shouldn't meet with foreign Islamic leaders, rather that the hijab is unnecessary when speaking to them or when present at any Islamic place of worship or center of learning.
