Victims of pressure

It is a real shame that the new Swiss Ambassador, Livia Leu Agosti, has fallen victim to the Islamists and has decided to don the hijab willingly. In Egypt, the covering of a Western or non-Muslim woman's head wasn't required, even at a Muslim wedding or visiting a mosque.

By acquiescing to such things as Islamic head coverings, a woman is in agreement that women are inferior, that we are ashamed of our sex, that we agree that exposing our hair is a sin. The only headcoverings I wear are hats in winter, hats for special occasions, especially in the UK where the wearing of a hat is preferred for women at weddings, christenings and funerals, but it is not mandatory, nor does it have a religious connection. A Muslim woman in Egypt once told me that she refused to cover her head, that the wearing of hijab or any head covering could not purify the heart. It galls me to see how many Western women have given in to this symbol of false piety, for that's all it is.
