Reader comment on item: Hijabs on Western Political Women

Submitted by JBB (Australia), Jun 11, 2008 at 01:23

A Christian parallel exists. Traditionally, female leaders, especially royalty, who visit the Pope, are required to wear a mantilla (headscarf) and wear black. This is still followed by Elizabeth II and most European royalty and some political leaders to this day. It doesn't appear to be an issue for them, so I'm uncertain why wearing a hijab/veil/etc in an Islamic holy site is an issue? Outside of that, they shouldn't be required to wear them.
