Reader comment on item: Hijabs on Western Public Women
in response to reader comment: Hijabs are worn for respect a sign of modesty... so no it is not like a prayer shawl

Muslim women wear hijabs (head scarves) to protect their modesty. No we (yes I am an American Muslim) do not wear it because we are forced, we choose to wear it. ... I do not teach Judaism because I do not fully understand it because I am not a practicing Jew.

You have a choice because you live in America. In many Muslims nations, the women don't have a choice. Just because you choose to wear it doesn't mean it is never forced on anyone.

Why are you so afraid of a few women wearing a head scarf? ...do not believe in Jesus and his mother Mary who also wore a head scarf as a sign of modesty like Muslim women right? Should we be afraid of the virgin Mary too? ... What about the Christian women and Jewish women who cover their hair also for religious reasons?

What about them? They don't force others to do it. Muslims do. That's the difference. Don't try and confuse the issue, Julie.
