Hijab in the mallReader comment on item: Hijabs on Western Political Women Submitted by Abhi (United States), May 30, 2009 at 18:04 Dear Dr Pipes: I think non-Muslims should NOT subscribe to discriminatory Islamic practices. Unfortunately, every political leader has to win public opinion polls and every vote counts. That is why all politicians serving in democratic societies are bending over backwards to appease the Islamic groups in their nations. And Muslims rather than returning the favor by adopting a cosmopolitan attitude themselves are exploiting this vulnerability of democratic societies to the fullest. In this context, I was recently surprised to see a Muslim woman in an American mall fully covered in a Burqa. The only parts of her body that were visible to me were her eyes. I am seeing more and more such instances in the western cities. While these Muslim women are fully indoctrinated in their way of thinking so have no reason to question the stands imposed upon them, I am amazed at the men in the lifes of these women. I wish Muslim men try to cover themselves from head to toe even for a day (let alone a lifetime) and discover for themselves how convenient and comfortable hijab as a product is.
