This is manipulation, not cultural respectReader comment on item: Hijabs on Western Political Women Submitted by Nora (United States), Jun 3, 2009 at 05:26 I don't buy the cultural respect excuse...no one should have to excuse their own culture and who they are, just because they visit another one or have visitors from another culture. One can show respect in other ways besides clothing. I feel it is playing into Muslim expectations and/or demands for a Western woman to dress as a Muslim woman, when that is not her normal attire. It reminds me of the female pilot that Pres. Bush hired to fly a Saudi Prince in the U.S. and the prince refused to allow a female military pilot for the plane. Who the hell was he to dictate what our military can do, especially in our own country, assigned by our President? The U.S. is not run on Sharia law. Never will be, either.
