Always Forgave?

Hmmmm I seem to remember the "Prophet of Mercy" having a poet executed for lampooning him during his time in mecca. or are you saying that being executed is a form of forgiveness in Islam? Because if you are, then Islam must be the most forgiving religion ever created.
