Reader comment on item: Islamists in the Courtroom

Submitted by Edward Halper (United States), Jun 5, 2007 at 18:25

I can't make any sense of this article. The building of the Mosque is continuing. The ISB claims victory on their web site. They also claim that others brought the law-suits. OK, I doubt they are reliable. But have they really managed to bilk Boston taxpayers? And if discovery did show links to terrorists organizations, shouldn't ISB leaders be behind bars?

I doubt that Free Bee and other Muslims have much understanding of democracy and freedom of the press. They have every right to seek legal redress for wrongs suffered. However, they should know that if their lawsuits are indeed attempts to stifle the press and free speech, they will not only lose but face criminal prosecution. They may need to see a few of their own people fined or in prison to learn to respect the rights of others.

It is surprising to hear American Muslim leaders talk about making the US an Islamic state. Of course, they have the freedom to say this, but the remark shows how little they understand and respect democracy.

Daniel Pipes replies:

The ISB claims victory to save face, on the grounds that another lawsuit was dismissed (due to reasons of standing) several months earlier. That lawsuit had, however, nothing to do with the ISB's actions.

The ISB did not bilk Boston taxpayers; the BRA agency that sold it the land did.

Plenty of Islamists with ties to terrorism are walking around freely. Indeed, some actual terrorists are too - see Terrorists Savoring the Good Life in the West and Insane Asylum: How America Welcomes Terrorists..
