Check out my previous comment below entitled "War and Peace". In it, I suggest that the idea that Islam means peace is a purely Western invention. To a Muslim, Islam is simply the name of his religion with no further "meaning" attached to it. It's similar to the word "Christianity". Supposedly, according to Western lore, that word implies "faith, hope and charity". But to the vast majority of Christians, "Christianity" is simply the name of a religion, nothing more and nothing less.
