Mr. Sullivan may be snobbish and a boor, but he has a point when it comes to understanding a language as opposed to merely translating words. The English language, as spoken here in America, calls for much interpretation. Without giving examples, surely you, Mr. Pipes, have run into situations where misunderstanding of what was meant, has been a problem. O.K., a minor example: Does the rest of the world understand that when I write,"America", I mean The United States of America? I believe that misunderstanding is a major problem unless it is in focus.
