I just watched a debate between Mullah Moustafa Zayed el-ikhwani (the member of the Muslim brotherhood) and Robert Spencer

For the readers: the Quranic word al-jizya has no clear meaning and it very well could be from the Syriac root GZY and the words

al-jizyata 3an yadin

or

1. al-jizya and this word has no lcear meaning

2. 3an means upon

3. yad means hand

or al-jizya upon hand

And if you find the syntax in the translation to be very unclear and grammatically poor then this is the same in Arabic. And notice that the author of the Qur'an does not tell his followers if this is indeed a mafia tax then how much is it supposed to be? And who is supposed to pay it among ahl al-kitab (the subject of such tax) so Muslims had to claim that they had the answers

These three words have puzzled the ulama and you can see why but not Mullah Moustafa el-ikhwani as he claims to have the answer: Masha'allah

So let me share a couple of gems from the debate:

1. Mullah Moustafa el-ikhwani is saying that we can pay our jizya by giving the Muslim ruler even pigs and wine! and I'm not kidding you and how generous!

So dhimmi boys and girls get your pigs and home made wine ready and use it to pay the mafia tax

2. Then he tells us that al-jizya was only one dinar (for the readers: he is a liar or ignorant as most Muslim sources tell us that it is one two four or "what is deemed right" or read this as sky is the limit) which is far from the truth and like anything in islam sky was the limit at times and we do have extant information about the effects of the jizya on various populations in the case of Egypt (where he is from) and it comes to us from the Cairo Geniza documents as well as from the likes of the Coptic revolt of the 730'sCE where the jizya led to the revolt by the Copts and starvarion in Egypt as farmers were abandoning the land and their is no doubt that this mafia tax was very much a major cause for the conversion of many Copts to islam. And to add inuslt to injury dhimmis had to pay another tax called al-kharj or the land tax and also here sky was the limit

So if you are reading this Mullah Moustafa el-ikhwani: do you think that your ancestors the Copts converted to Islam because of this mafia tax? What do you think ya habibi?

Oh there is more then Muallah Moustafa el-ikhwani tells us that "what is the big deal one dinar is only $100"

Oh why sould he care as it is not coming out of his pocket and even today $100 is lots of money ot lots of people. What a hypocrite

Just imagine the value of $100 1400 years ago!

And what he does not tell us that in today's Egypt (according to recent reports) that 50% of the population lives on $2 per day (and included here would be housing and shelter and clothes and transportation and the cost of medical care). Yes you read it correctely $2 per day or at the rate of exchange now of 11 Egyptian pounds per day which is not enough to have enough food for one day and to give you an idea about the cost of food in today's Egypt: a kilogram of beans is about 40 Egyptian pounds and Lentils is about 30 Egyptian pounds! Oh meat? It is about 100 pounds per kilo! This means that in today's Egypt most Egyptians can harldy even have enough food and then he wants these poor people to pay a mafia tax of about 600 pounds? and to "protect them from what? How cruel

The same thing was happening 1400 years ago when the imperialist Arabs invaded Egypt and brutalized his ancestors the Copts! But again these people the likes of Mullah Moustafa el-ikhwani are despicable characters
