Making religion safe

Reader comment on item: Q&A: Remaking a Religion

Submitted by Ralph C. Whaley MD (United States), Dec 30, 2010 at 17:45

The only way to make religion safe is to live in a nation that protects individual rights and nothing else. The danger in all religions is the appeal to force to spread their doctrines. Since religion is in essence faith, belief in the absence of evidence, no peaceful persuasive arguments for it are possible. Making a case requires evidence. Evidence is provided to man by his sense perception processed by his faculty of reason. Religion is a form of superstition only safe in society when all members renounce the initiation of force against others and establish a government that respond with force against those who initiate force.
