False Optimism???

Reader comment on item: Q&A: Remaking a Religion

Submitted by John W. McGinley (United States), Dec 30, 2010 at 20:55

I hope you are right about the possible evolution possible in Islam and, correlatively, the will of Western Democracies to draw the line in the sand. First of all, the most intlelligent scholars as of now, of the Quran and of the body of Sharia Law, are Islamists. "Moderate" Muslims ((not unlike, in this respect, Reform, Reconstructionist and even Conserative Judaism)) are children the Enlightment who happen to be of Islmaic descent. The battle for the soul of Islam will be captured only by groupings (if they exist at all) who are Children of Islam itself and NOT the Enlightment who are intelligent and persistent enough to stand up in the "marketplace" of International Islam. Such is very unlikely to happen.
