A great gulf is fixed

Reader comment on item: Q&A: Remaking a Religion

Submitted by Kepha Hor (United States), Jan 2, 2011 at 15:13

If Muslims find a way to make their own religion a kinder, gentler one, fine. But it would be utter folly and arrogance for non-Muslim American thinkers and politicians (mostly evolutionary naturalists) to try to tell the whole Islamic world that its religion is really "moderate".

As a Christian, I welcome any Muslim who wants to join the real religion of peace (Christianity). But I would never pretend to tell the Muslims that violent jihad is not really at the core of their faith. Too much of the Muslim Ulema has repeatedly and clearly declared that it is, with their fingers on the proper passages of the Qu'ran and Hadith, and have either cowed those who disagree into silence, or have failed to find any who would disagree.

And, haven't these left-wing evolutionary naturalists who have alienated their own Christian neighbors and even relatives at home by trying to govern their consciences fro outside learned a lesson that the same strategy will surely backfire on Muslim peoples, who have ties of neither blood nor citizenship with them?
