Reader comment on item: "Islam" Does Not Mean "Peace"
in response to reader comment: Our dear Seamus and Mecca

Submitted by Seamus MacNemi (United States), Jun 17, 2007 at 20:50

You are the one who claimed to be a Meccan Pagan. That wasn't my idea. You are also the one who is calling me a philosopher but I am no Greek.

It's like I said, I don't care what you are or are not. You can be what ever you want to be. Only if you are going to be something, be it totally. Otherwise you are just playing games with yourself. You... People who don't really believe in anything and just like stiring up trouble. They have heads full of facts and they aren't really commited to anything.

I'm not going to start hating people just because you tell me to. and I'm not going to paint all Muslims with the same brush as you would have me do. Just because a man is a muslim doesn't mean that he is a murderer or a thief. You are doing the same thing to Muslims that has always been done to the Jews and to my folk as well. I've heard it all before, the Irish are this and the Jews are that and when will it all stop? It will stop when you stop it and not before.

It's one thing to fight fascism and terrorism, quite another to go around deamonizing simple folk simply for the place or time of their birth. No one has the choice of where he will be born or when or to whom. The best a man can do is to accept who he is and make the best of it.

Men can learn to transcend their differences if you give them the chance but if you continually cram them back into the same boxes that they just crawled out of they will never get that chance. Hatred, even of terrorists, will get us nowhere. Hatred will only demean us.

I well understand the anger and frustration that people feel in these times. It is no less than my own. But by allowing our selves the foolish luxury of hating we demonstrate a decided lack of faith in the G-d who made us. Hating is easy, keeping the commandment of G-d is not. We are supposed to be living by the commandments of G-d
