Reader comment on item: "Islam" Does Not Mean "Peace"
in response to reader comment: Our dear Seamus and his damsel in distress and the word Islam and the Hellenes

Submitted by Seamus MacNemi (United States), Jun 27, 2007 at 12:03

Let's see if your wonderful mind can grasp this.

(1) I never at all said that Islam meant peace. That is solely your diatribe. I know that Islam means submission and I have repeatedly said as much but you keep twisting my words and putting words in my mouth that I did not say.

(2) Your second statement is totally assinine and having nothing to do with what the Lady was talking about. Hers was a scholarly question about the derivations of Arabic roots for which your reply was a litany of insults

(3) You have never read any of my replies

(4) What Islam means to those who follow that religion has absoutely nothing to do with the actual meaning of the word. Each individual interprets the word according to his own lights and those lights are not yours.

(5) I never at all said that my folk were Ebionites. I only used the Ebionites as a comparison with my beliefs but you assumed your own notions and again put words into my mouth that I did not say.

(6) I know well enough about the Jews of Mecca and I don't need a history lesson from you.

(7) As for your "Profound Aristotelian question" it was a mockery of the Athenians beliefs for which Aristotle was killed, and he rightly deserved it, for by this question he sought to undermine the government of Athens. Little good it did them though, Alexander still invaded and subsumed them into his empire and they still lost their freedom.

(8) The Torah has many levels of meaning and if you read only the surface meaning then you read only the simplest meaning that is for the simplest minds. On top of this error you read a translation in either English. Latin or Greek, all of which are flawed because they are translations only of the first level. If you Studied the Torah to any degree of depth then your "Profound" question would be a total nonsequitor ..

suppose next you will expound upon your knowledge of the Torah. HA I'd love to hear it from someone who can't even pronounce the blessing over the Kiddush wine and has never said the "SHMA" in his life
