in response to reader comment: I'll try to explain it to you one more time

I had hoped that this would be avoided. I had hoped that wiser minds would prevail and that we could all go on about our lives as if the whole thing was just a phantasm of our nightmares.. I'm beginning to think that my hope was rather naive and vain. I am no longer so sure of myself or my vision. Prehaps it was only a pipe dream.

I have watched a generation squander the dream my father fought and died for. The dream I have lived for most of my life. I think there are few who can understand a love for the land. What it means to be able to call up life from the bare earth, to hold the livingness of our world in your hands and wonder at the miracle of mere existence. Men are so much more concerned with the babble in their heads that they do not percieve the life surrounding them. They know little of nothing of the life within their own souls. They are strangers even to themselves. And so we have come to this.

I have killed men in my lifetime. Not because I wanted to but because I was given no other choice. I hate war but I cannot hate the men I had to kill to preserve my own life. I pity them and I pray for their souls that there will be one day when there is no more war and I shall no more be called upon to take the life of another.

But alas it seems that my prayers are not to be answered. Again good men will be sent to die because there are fools whos ambitions exceed their wit. Men who think themselves gods or set themselves up as the sole representatives of G-d on the earth. Idiots all of them. They talk and talk and talk of G-d but few ever listen to the voice of G-d within their own souls. If they did there would be no war and there would be no cause for war. Instead all they listen to is the babbling nonsense of their feeble egos. Pride goeth before the fall. That is something they have yet to truly learn

I've spent the night rereading the writings of the early Zionists. So much of what they wrote comes home to me when I am working in my garden. Often I find myself carrying on internal conversations with men like The Baal Shem Tov or the Lubavitcher Rebbe. In my thoughts they are who they are and I am who I am. They do not always agree with me and I do not expect them to. It may seem odd to many of you that a gentile such as myself should have such thoughts. But such thinking has been for generations the way of life in my family. It is in that way that we learn. The rebirth of the State of Israel was the rebirth of my own folk as well. In the rekindling of the Lamp of Judah was the rekindling of our own lamp. That was my fathers legacy and the inheritance that he bequeathed to me. I cannot abandon it nor will I.

Those who hate Zion will despise the womb that bore them. Men who stand with their pride erect before the face of G-d will be cut off. This much I well know. But still I regret that it must be so for men in the world. It is the fool who will not learn from experience and it seems that men often prefer to be fools.
