Submission to God, not some petty tyrants

Reader comment on item: "Islam" Does Not Mean "Peace"
in response to reader comment: "Submission" (to ISLAM)

Actually a lot has changed, and changed back again, since the time of Mohammed. Many of the precepts Mohammed taught are not honored, his example as to the treatment of women is one, or they are intentionally misconstrued for political expediency in this day and age. In a certain epoch of it's history, the Muslim world was a center of tolerance and knowldege.

People from all over the world went there to learn, and to teach, and were welcomed. This was a Muslim culture consistent with one, more peaceful, interpretation of the Koran, some people believe, the true interpretation. Totally different from the one being taught by fascist "Islamists" today as their Koran. The elements that came together to change that could fill many volumes and do. It's always dangerous to over-generalize. But the question was not, whether I like all that is happening in the Muslim world. It's awful, horrible.

The question was "Does Islam mean "peace" or not to Muslims?" ( you will note the much discussed S-L-M construction clearly present in "Islam"). In one interpretation it does. That's all. And this interpretation prexists this discussion and preexists the current wave of Islamist teachings.
