Reader comment on item: "Islam" Does Not Mean "Peace"

Submitted by Phil Greend (Canada), Jun 3, 2007 at 19:40

Maybe the word islam doesn't mean peace , the real issue is , are muslims peaceful.

There have been too many bombings , shootings , plane hijackings , murders and hate speech by muslims in the name of islam for us to say " islam is the religion of peace ". Yes there are peaceful muslims , many. This does not take away from the fact that there are some bad ones and they quote parts of the islamic holy book, then go and do bad things ie. 1972 olympic attacks , the first attack on the World Trade Center in 1993 , Daniel Pearl murder , the multiple plane hijackings and attacks on the World Trade Centers on September 11 , .

Those are just the attacks on non - muslims , people who live in islamic countries suffer as well , girls who under go female genital mutilation , women who are murdered in honor killings , .

There are good muslims. We need for them to stand up to the bad ones.
