RE:Oh I forgot silly me!Reader comment on item: Bolstering Moderate Muslims Submitted by shakeel (Pakistan), May 18, 2007 at 13:56 Hello dhimmi, First I had impression that you are either Arab or very good in Arabic, but now this impression is lost or at least faded, as you insist more on saying Nafs as soul. Al-though Nafs sometime is also used to refer soul, it actually means something that breathes. Nafs= Body + Spirit When Quran says Every Nafs will have a taste of death. (29:57) It means, every living thing will die. Nafs also means Self as in this verse You know what is in my self but I do not know what is in Your self" (5:116) Nafs is also a combination of strong forces in man which can push him either towards good or evil. The force which pushes him toward evil is Nafs al Ammara and the other which blames when he does some evil is Nafs al Lawwama Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate.
