Hello true believer,

Zainab was not Prophet's daughter- in-law, she was the divorcee of Zaid negro slave, whom Muhammad (sws) loved so much that he freed him and adopted him as his son.

The wrong thing about Arabs was that they took their adopted son as their real son which was wrong, because in this way, adopted sons took a part of inheritance from their adopted fathers and this would deprive the real sons share.

Muhammad (sws) with the order of Allah eliminated this wrong practice forever. From now on, adopted son will never become a real son and in order to remove this practice from the root, it was necessary that Muhammad (sws) marry his adopted son's divorcee.

FYI, adoption in which real parents are overridden by adopted parents is harram (forbidden)
