0.4% of Americans are MuslimReader comment on item: How Many Muslims in the United States? Submitted by Jim in Texas (United States), Jun 4, 2009 at 09:46 2009 U.S. Census say 0.4 of adults over the age of 18 are Muslim That would be 1,216,238 of the 2008 Census estimate of 304,059,074 total American. The 2000 Census's (Census'??) self reported population of Americans identifying themselves as Muslims was less than a million, 527,000. Let's be generous and say that was 100% underreported and double the number. That becomes 1,054,000, close to the 2009 Census data. I don't think you can reasonably conclude that there are more than 1.5 million Americans that claim to be Muslim.
