Reader comment on item: How Many Muslims in the United States?
in response to reader comment: Still no satisfactory answers

I am not sure what your point is about the Atomic bomb and Japan. I really don't care to debate that point except to say that I have been to Hiroshima, and it was a profound and moving experience for me. I don't think the decision to drop those bombs was made as lightly as you imply.

As for your second point, let's not try to get into a statistical breakdown as to how many hate America vs those that want to come here-or have come here. I think my point was pretty clear. We are the most generous nation on earth, and our generosity is not always appreciated.

As to your third point, I agree that all religions have had their dark chapters and poor representatives. I am no admiror of Pat Robertson, but his remarks about Chavez were pretty mild compared to actual fatwas coming from Muslim clerics against people like Salmon Rushdie, etc.

Bottom line: I will for the thousandth time acknowlwedge that most Muslims are not interested in fighting or killing anyone. But enough are to represent a tremendous crisis within Islam. As for the so-called moderates, I repeat that only a few are truly standing up and speaking out. Why is this so? Is it fear? Is it a secret sympathy with the "Jihadists"? Is it possibly that they feel they cannot win a doctrinal debate against the so-called radicals based on what is written in the Koran as well as the words and deeds of Mohammed? As yet, I am still trying to keep an open mind.

Peace
