Dear Discouraged, Don't you worry about the frightened masses. I am an american born muslim, fought in the Viet Nam war have married, (one wife), have raised my children following both the basic tenets of christianity and Judaism. Do I believe everything in the Quran, nah I leave that kind of slavish belief to the Christian fundamentalist, and the muslim fundamentalist.

You have obviously met a man who buys into the fundamental beliefs of his religion and has a faith in God. All these holy rollers you hear from really don't care about God, they only care about their religion and being right. You are right - in my times overseas I find most of my fellow Americans are obnoxious, think the only right way is their way and no very little about the people outside of the United States. So I hope you have a long happy marriage and perhaps get to study a little Sufi philosophy - above all don't sweat the bigots they are everywhere, in the US and in the Middle East, they are a bain upon all relgions - perhaps if some religion is right they'll get theirs.

By the way Pipes is alright - the man just has to get political sometimes and forgets his academic background and responsibilities. Makes for a cute read.
