It IS simple

Except simple people do not understand. Simply because the countries of the middle east are ignorant of history is no reason to develop a nuclear weapon. The United States developed a nuclear weapon because it was directly threatened AND attacked.

Has iran been attacked? Threatened? No - but they threatened, attacked and held Americans hostage (have people forgotten that embassies are THE territory of the country which they represent. iran already declared war on the United States. But, I suppose, since iran is just a pimple on a flea, the people in Washington just decided to shrug it off. I hope we are not willing to do that again.
