The only correct Path?

Reader comment on item: Obama, the Middle East and Islam - An Initial Assessment
in response to reader comment: Gururaj: and thats why we urge you to BECOME MUSLIM, so we can become brothers...

I'm not sure how your comment about Islam being "the only correct path" is relevant here, Masud, except that you appear to think it answers the problem brought up by Gururaj about the Islamic meaning of the text Obama invokes.

With apologies to the site administrators, I think this begs a response that digresses even further from the thread. If you think Obama is acknowledging the supremacy of Islam and the need for us all to become "brothers" in it, perhaps you must be reminded that Obama is a professing Christian.

Now, it seems you profess some knowledge of other faiths, Masud. I know you revere Jesus as a prophet. Are you familiar with his sayings? Do you know what Obama, as a Christian, believes about him? One of the most important sayings of Jesus (your prophet, after all) goes like this: "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father except through me".

Unlike Mohammed, Jesus did not come with a religion, or a system of "submission". He brought only himself. Accept him or reject him -- that's it. Note "I am the WAY" . Here, "Way" = "Path", Masud. "The Father", as you ought to know, is Jesus' way of speaking of God. He says the only way -- the only path -- to God ... is through him. I, too, would like to be your brother in faith, Masud -- in a sense analogous to what you mean. But this will never happen by me, Obama, or others leaving the one path (as we Christians believe) Jesus. It will happen when you accept Jesus whom you claim to revere as Lord and Saviour and become his follower.

Until that time we are nevertheless brothers in the human race, and I, Obama and other christians love you. You may consider us enemies, and indeed we may be in the only sense of the word that your religion admits. But here's a big difference between us: followers of Jesus are commanded to love their enemies, to bless them, and not to return evil for evil. So even if I am your enemy, you are my friend and brother, though our beliefs be worlds apart.
