What about Marwan Barghouti as a strongman to oppose Hamas?

Reader comment on item: Solving the "Palestinian Problem" [with the No-State Solution]

What about the idea of releasing Barghouti from Israeli prison, with the goal of having him become the pragmatic strongman to lead the Palestinians and confront Hamas?

Wouldn't that have a chance to:
1) Give Israelis someone to negotiate with
2) Give Palestinians a strong leader that's acceptible to the world and Israel
3) Give the Palestinians their own state
4) Weaken Hamas
