Political definitions are a nightmare in the Middle East

Reader comment on item: Solving the "Palestinian Problem" [with the No-State Solution]

Submitted by Israel Hazak (Denmark), Jan 9, 2009 at 08:00

That Jordan was established on 75% of the British Palestine Mandate is a fact. It cannot be denied. That the Hashemites took over is a fact too but it can be discussed if it cannot receive a greater number of Palestinian Arabs.

Already a greater part of the propulation of Jordan is of Palestinian descent. They have to behave of course. Part of Judea and Samaria might be transferred to Jordan as part of its sovereign territory. The term West Bank sounds false in my ears. The west bank of what river ?? The Nile, The Rhein, The Don, the Danube?? We´ve been there too! Cities of Jewish heritage like Hebron, Jericho, and even Bethlehem and Nazareth that still carry their Hebrew names require a separate charter.

Jerusalem stays Jewish, some of its suburbs may be discussed. Some typically Arab cities, such as Umm-el-Fahm and Kalkilya for example, can receive a status of autonomous Palestinian-Arab communities, even under Jordanian Law. if they so desire. A number of loyal Arabs who live inside of typical Israeli cities can remain as Israeli citizens with the same rights and responsibilities although it is desirable that each man lives in his own home so to speak.

Gaza?? Egyptian, by all means if Mubarak wants it - which I doubt -! The most important thing of all that few people understand: the matter between Jews and Arabs in the Middle East is nor a matter for Swedes or Spaniards ie for outsiders! It can only be resolved by these two parties, without the UN (that has failed majestically), without the EU that thinks mostly of its Muslim populations, without the US that must think about itself , without the Quartet or Terzet or whatever musical combination that has been injected into the negotiations. Only by Jews and Arabs sitting at a round table and negotiating without the threat of rockets or any other weaponry.

Islamists who want to sabotage the process must be shunned or fought against.
