Israel should re-annex the territories.

Reader comment on item: Solving the "Palestinian Problem" [with the No-State Solution]

Submitted by Bob Brooks (United States), Jan 7, 2009 at 14:49

Israel was too small to divide up in the 1st place. When the Jews won the 1st Israeli War and took possession of the Holy Land, Palestine, Israel or whatever you want to call it, they did not tell the Arabs (Palestinians) to leave. Many stayed and became citizens of Israel. It was the Arab Fighters who told the Palestinians to leave. So many of them fled to other countries, only to be housed in refugee camps.

They weren't treated very well by Arab countries - Jordan, for instance, didn't want them. However, they were welcomed by the only Christian Democracy in the Middle East, Lebanon. You can see how they rewarded that country. And since then, they have wanted back into Israel. They have whittled away at it. But they won't be happy with a two state solution. They will only be happy when Israel is gone.

The US foreign policy towards the Middle East must bear much of the blame. They have a lot of influence over Israel. It was Bush who wanted a two state solution. Bad idea. It was Rice, who wanted the Israelis to pull back from Lebanon in 2006. Bad Idea. Before it's too late, we need to step back a few years and undo the mess we have made in the middle east. I think the only true solution is to face up to the evil that Islamic Extremism is; recreate Israel in its original borders. Force the Arab States to accept the Palestinians who don't want to stay in Israel. If Hezbollah starts warring against Israel again, we should take advantage of the opportunity, join with Israel battling Hezbollah and try to recreate a Democracy in Lebanon.

We are at War. You can't win by running away and you can't win by refusing to define who the enemy is.
