Redeployment in IraqReader comment on item: In Iraq, Stay the Course - but Change It Submitted by SLC (United States), Oct 27, 2006 at 10:29 A better redeployment option is to recognize that Iraq is not one country but three countries. Withdraw all allied troops from Baghdad and the Sunni triangle and redeploy them to Kurdistan, allowing the Kurds to declare their independence. The current force is inadequate to provide security in the whole of Iraq but should be adequate to provide security in Kurdistan, pretecting it from a Turkish incursion but at the same time preventing the Kurds from fomenting trouble in Turkey. Of course, this would leave the rest of the country in a shambles and a civil war, but absent a very substantial increment in the force level, the US can't prevent that anyway. This approach would at least salvage something from the wreckage. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
