Reader comment on article: In Iraq, Stay the Course - but Change It

Submitted by K.H. Ahmed (United States), Oct 29, 2006 at 07:20

Didn't Jack Murtha call for this same option. Redeploy, over the horizon that kind of thing. I didn't hear you come out in support of that position then or perhaps I just missed it. Isn't this what King George and the boys call "cut and run". The whole damn national conversation has fallen apart on this subject.

It is a great way to start a dialogue in the region, a way to get off the snide here. It is a position that conservatives should have taken long ago. We in fact should have oppossed this mess from the very beginning. I find it difficult to believe we have been reduced to this level of reacting to disasters as opposed to fighting against them from the start.

I would hope that you would move on and start presenting some rationale arguments and developing some reasonable ways to approach the problem of Iran as you have currently done on this issue.

We are conservatives, we are not suppose to fall into slobbering fits over such things as Islamophobia. Our world is rational and approachable, we educate ourselves on the issues and on all parties involved. Someone out there needs to approach the issues of the Middle East in a rational manner. You made a good start. Now lets discuss a sane way to contain the Iranian mess before King George creates another horror show.

Daniel Pipes replies:

Murtha calls for US troops to leave Iraq. I call for them to be redeployed within the country. Very different.
