Reader comment on item: The Enemy Within [and the Need for Profiling]

Submitted by Stewart G. Young (United States), Jan 26, 2003 at 20:09

Our concerned fear of being politically incorrect will be our undoing. The enemy is a subset of Islamic believers who must be called what they are, targetted individually & collectively, and systematically eliminated. "Neville Chamberlain Syndrome" kept England from identifying the Nazis for who they were, and as attractive as the idea is that people everywhere want peace, it just isn't borne out by the historical facts. We fought our way to independence in the 18th century and we've been fighting to keep our freedom ever since, the 20th Century having been the deadliest so far. I reckon we'll have to fight our way through the 21st Century because it doesn't appear that everybody wants to give peace a chance yet. If some people get their feelings hurt in the process of preserving our civilization, that's a shame, but it should not deter us from preserving it nevertheless. This is not NCAA football with nicely subscribed rules. It's them or us, and I'm for us.

That having been said, evil generally destroys itself in time, and the 9/11 episode will ultimately be the undoing of militant Islam. There will probably be a lot of people killed between now & then, but 9/11 was a BIG mistake by Al Q. and their cronies, who ensured the demise of their cause -- and perhaps even their religion -- by going Big Time. ... Freedom of belief brings a heavy responsibility to care for one's soul, and to love your neighbor as yourself.
