Lesser of 2 Evils

Reader comment on item: The Enemy Within [and the Need for Profiling]

Submitted by Hetal Patel (United Kingdom), Jan 24, 2003 at 08:26

Dear Dr Pipes,

Firstly, well done on your good work so far. I think yours is a viewpoint that is rarely mentioned in these politically correct times. Having said that, I think you have your finger on the pulse as far as the "street" goes in that surely we must all look
past the easy comforting life we ve all led in the past as the future promises more disastrous events like 9/11 if we are not vigilant.

As a UK citizen of indian origin I frequently travel to the USA to visit family and can only say that I have never felt as I ve been singled out or persecuted on racial profiling grounds...

Surely the same people screaming bloody murder now and moaning about the loss of their civil liberties would do well to remember that the very nations they left behind gave them hardly 1% of the rights they feel so aligned with in the free world.

I applaud the recent decision by the Bush administration to continue with registration for Saudi and Pakistani nationals and hope that the government does realise that at best Pakistan is merely an expedient ally . It did what it did out of political expediency, not out of love for the USA.

Anyway I only have 1 complaint ...when are we going to have the opportunity to hear Dr Pipes speak in the UK ?
