There should be MORE Muslim winners

Reader comment on item: Affirmative Action in Beauty Contests?

Submitted by Robin Crane (United States), Dec 10, 2011 at 14:23

considering the stats on worldwide population by religion, wouldn't you expect MORE Muslims to win beauty pageants? For example, here are stats from Wholesome Worlds, Worldwide Missions (note that there are five subdivisions following the totals for Christians). At this rate there should be MORE than 10 beauty pageant winners of Muslim descent for every 20 Christian winners:

Major Religions of the World (mid-2009)2

Christian 2,264,492,000 Roman Catholics 1,142,604,000 Protestants 412,969,000 Independents* 361,279,000 Orthodox 273,355,000 Anglicans 85,360,000 Muslims 1,523,212,150 Hindus 935,460,000 Buddhists 483,821,000 Chinese folk religionists 454,579,800 Sikhs 24,222,700 Jews 14,549,000

Daniel Pipes replies:

We are discussing Muslim in the West, where they constitute 1-5 percent of the population in most countries.
