Reader comment on item: Affirmative Action in Beauty Contests?

Submitted by Philadelphia Freedom (United States), May 18, 2010 at 20:54

I would like to respond to this mess without offending others, but the ignorance is clear. For starters, Anisah Rasheed is a black woman whose family follows the Muslim faith, not a woman of Middle Eastern descent. Even including her is moronic since black women have been winning beauty contests at HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES FOR FRIKIN' EVER! It's a beauty pageant at a majority and historically black school. ...

Secondly, I could find you 250 white women in three days time that look just like Julliette Boubaaya, and I could find you Italian women that look more "ethnic" than she. FINALLY, Miss USA has ALWAYS been a more ethnically inclusive competition. Why? Because these women go on to compete in the Miss Universe Competition and the UNIVERSE is not comprised with the percentage of bigots that the United States is. In order for Miss USA to be a contender in the Miss Universe Pageant in the new millennium she has to represent the DIVERSITY of beauty in the United States, not the Klan-endorsed feminine ideal ... like to pleasure themselves to. ...

I see flaxen haired blue eyed Muslims (IN FULL GARB) in my city. Can they win your beauty pageant? ...
