Reader comment on item: Affirmative Action in Beauty Contests?

The statistics supporting a charge of affirmative action are a bit suspect on this. Divide the number of muslim beauty queen winners per year in a given population by the total number of pageants + homecoming queens per year, and the numbers work out to around 2%. That seems pretty reasonable, since the total population of muslims in the US is ... 2%. (And if you take out the foreign winners and homecoming queens, the number still hovers around 2-3%.)

I don't see much need for outrage for a post by Daniel Pipes grouching about muslims, but there's certainly not much going for this post in terms of opinion.

What is interesting is that Muslims are running at all in these pageants, despite requirements for less than conservative dress. That suggests that they are being assimilated pretty well into the US population.
