Reader comment on item: Affirmative Action in Beauty Contests?

Submitted by DANIEL REDMOND (United States), May 20, 2010 at 03:23

Political Correctness has become an ever-present reality in our culture. Let's face it, if even after the events of Sept. 11, 2001 we steadfastly refuse to profile Arabs and Muslims at airports, rigging a beauty pageant to allow Muslims to win is no big surprise. However, Islam itself presents some problems for the Muslim contestants.

Consider the dress code, for instance. I noticed a photograph of a Miss Julliet Boubaaya, a very attractive young Arabic woman, wearing a bikini. If she is a Muslim, isn't this an offense worthy of at least 72 lashes under Sha'ria law? It seems she is showing a bit more of her, uh, boobayas than what is acceptable in the Quran. Islam and bikinis don't go together very well. And contestant Anisah Rasheed, who won the title of Miss A&T of a North Carolina university may be in for some hard times if a few dyslexic Muslim clerics mis-read her title as "Miss T&A." I rest my case.
