Reader comment on item: Affirmative Action in Beauty Contests?
in response to reader comment: Our dear Sofia and Arabic

Submitted by Sofia (United States), May 24, 2010 at 05:06

Hello,

To Clarify:

A. I never said I was using an Arabic term. I don't speak Arabic, nor am I of Arab ethnic origin (I'm Scots/English and Spanish). The term 'that was used in my travels in Xinjiang (so I would think it would be in Uighur) is: MUSULMANA. Meaning a woman who is Muslim.

B. The writing on the tombs in Xinjiang is in Persian. Persian was the language of the Khanates from which the tombs date. The writing, in Persian, was in KUFIC SCRIPT. Nothing to do with Arabic whatsoever.

C. I am not Muslim. What you said about "Arabic Masters" doesn't seem to even relate to anything I was commenting on. I was commenting on how quickly the Chinese are trying to eliminate the Uighur culture in Xinjiang, including tearing down historical places. Examples: the old city section of Kashgar and the old Mosque in Hotan. Yes, many other empires and conquerors have done so as well.
