Affirmative Action in Beauty Contests? Who cares?

Reader comment on item: Affirmative Action in Beauty Contests?

Let us keep the discussion on an adult level, and not stoop to ad hominem attacks, especially towards young girls. While I have great respect for Daniel Pipes and while I generally agree with him, I do not believe any useful purpose is served by arguing over trivialities, e.g., whoever happens to win the Miss USA pageant. For my part, I am more concerned with the Iranian nuclear weapon and ballistic missile program, the Obama administration's feckless and inept foreign policy, and Defense Secretary Gates' disturbing proposals to gut the military budget than I am with whoever happens to be crowned "Miss USA." There's always next year's beauty pageant. And winning such a pageant amounts to little more than a few minutes fleeting notoriety.
