Reader comment on item: Sudden Jihad or "Inordinate Stress" at Ft. Hood?
in response to reader comment: Sudden Jihad - but long time in the making

Dear David,

Wasn't Sirhan Sirhan a Palestinian Christian?

I remember the assassination of Robert Kennedy. There were inconsistencies that still persist. For example, the number of bullet holes in the walls and in Kennedy indicated Sirhan had to have reloaded, yet most observers said he did not have time. There were reports of a young woman in a polka dot dress running from the scene. A young Hispanic female witness insisted that she saw the woman. A few weeks later the girl recanted. One of the inforamtion channels a few years ago ran the audio tape of the girl's interview prior to the recantation. There was obvious coercion on the part of the interviewer. He simply whittled away at her in a manner that was part paternal and part flirtatious. Finally he said that he loved Bobby Kennedy and assumed that the girl did also. (She did). He said that Bobby should rest in peace and that the matter should have closure. Finally the girl recanted.

If Sirhan was Christian that would be surprising but not unthinkable. Despite centuries of dhimmitude, Arab Christians - either through ancestral habits or a sense of Arab identity - still will serve ISlam.

I found it odd that Sirhan - who needed a translator for his less than perfect English - wrote his diary in English. A diary is a personal statement and one would normally use the language he felt most comfortable in.
