Relatives OR Co-religionists

Reader comment on item: Sudden Jihad or "Inordinate Stress" at Ft. Hood?
in response to reader comment: looking for excuses when none really exist?

Submitted by Sholom Landy (Israel), Nov 13, 2009 at 03:19

You're absolutely correct, in that I said 'relatives' instead of saying 'co-religionists'. [I had begun my letter equating the two, Apache and Jew.] As a Muslim, Hasan felt a strong kinship with Muslims worldwide, Sunni and Shia. The world knows that Sunni and Shia Muslims are at each other's throats. But in this case the attackers are non-Muslims, so he saw it as a threat to all Muslims.
